Iwama Ryu Bokuto

While both types of oak are related, Shirogashi is an evergreen tree and lacks the open grain found in American oaks. This open grain in American Oak makes it softer and more prone to damage from impact. In contrast, Shirogashi has a uniformly hard structure, which makes it more resistant to dents and impact. Shirogashi also has denser grains compared to Akagashi, making it slightly heavier but more durable. Because of these properties, Shirogashi is highly valued for making high-quality Bokuto.--------------------------------------------------------- Red Oak Bokuto is oil treated.
